Protest Rocks Abuja Over Alleged Plot to Undermine EFCC Chairman
A coalition of civil society groups, under the banner of the National Interest Coalition (NICO), staged a massive protest in Abuja on Monday, condemning an alleged plot to undermine the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede.
The protesters, who marched to the EFCC headquarters, accused powerful individuals of sponsoring a smear campaign with billions of naira to derail President Tinubu’s anti-corruption fight. They carried placards expressing support for the EFCC boss and urged the government to resist attempts to sabotage ongoing reforms.
According to the coalition, the alleged conspirators include those under investigation for corruption, who are desperate to weaken the anti-graft agency. Protest leaders reaffirmed their commitment to stand with the EFCC in its battle against corruption.
