JUST IN: Nnamdi Kanu Begs Court for Transfer Over Failing Health

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has filed an urgent application before the Federal High Court seeking to be moved from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to the National Hospital, Abuja, for medical treatment.

Kanu, who has been in DSS detention since his re-arrest, told the court that his health has deteriorated and that continued stay in DSS custody poses a serious risk to his life.

According to his legal team, doctors have already recommended specialized treatment that cannot be adequately provided at the DSS medical facility.

The application, expected to be heard in the coming days, is likely to spark fresh legal and political debates around the government’s handling of his detention and human rights concerns.

Court insiders say the ruling could also test the balance between national security interests and the constitutional right to adequate medical care.
