Jubilation as Tinubu Secures Landmark Deals in Brazil to Boost Nigeria’s Economy
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Brazil on a two-day state visit, where he is pushing for stronger economic and diplomatic ties between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s biggest nation.
At the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Tinubu is holding high-level meetings with government officials, lawmakers, and business leaders, with the visit already yielding major agreements.
Among them is a landmark “Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA)” that will allow direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil, set to be operated by airlines like Air Peace. The presidency says this will deepen trade, tourism, and logistics between both countries.
In addition, both nations revived the “Green Imperative Partnership (GIP)”, a $1.1 billion agricultural mechanization deal, that will deliver 10,000 tractors and 50,000 farm implements to Nigeria, aimed at boosting food security and creating jobs.
Speaking on the significance of the trip, the presidency described it as a “strategic game changer”, stressing that Nigeria is moving from diplomatic talk to concrete action. Tinubu is also expected to participate in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum, where more Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) in energy, trade, and aviation are expected.
This visit marks Tinubu’s third official trip to Brazil in under a year, Nigeria is targeting to expand trade with Brazil from $2 billion currently to $3.5 billion by 2030.
