Massive Police Deployment for Anambra Governorship Election, November 8, 2025
The Nigeria Police Force has announced a large-scale nationwide deployment of personnel ahead of the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
In a wireless message from the Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, addressed to zonal commands, state commissioners of police, and specialized units, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) directed that all formations urgently forward the salary account details and verified records of nominated personnel by Friday, September 19, 2025.
The directive, tagged “very important,” further warned that formations would be held responsible for non-payment of election allowances if incorrect information was submitted.
Breakdown of Deployment
According to the official communication, over 20,000 police officers will be mobilized across departments, state commands, and tactical units. Key highlights include:
Force Headquarters Units: More than 1,000 personnel from Inspector General’s Secretariat, Department of Operations, FCID, CTU, SPU, FPRO, and other departments.
State Commands: Lagos (1,500), Rivers (1,500), Ogun (1,000), FCT (1,000), and several others contributing 500 officers each.
Specialized Units: Police Mobile Force (4,158 officers), Special Intelligence Squad (300), Counter Terrorism Unit (300), and K9, Marine, Drone, and Airwing units.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police was also directed to submit a comprehensive nominal roll of all officers within his command, including tactical squads, to ensure proper coordination.
Security Priority
This deployment, considered one of the largest mobilizations for an election in recent years, underscores the Federal Government’s and Police leadership’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and order during the highly anticipated Anambra poll.
The IGP also emphasized strict compliance with guidelines, urging all personnel to conduct themselves professionally and avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the election.
