DSS Demands Deactivation of Sowore’s X Account Over Tinubu Comment

The Department of State Services (DSS) has asked X (formerly Twitter) to urgently deactivate activist Omoyele Sowore’s verified account after he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” in an August 25 post.

In a letter dated September 6, the DSS said the comment violated several laws, including the Cybercrimes Act, and could incite unrest. The agency warned X to act within 24 hours or face sweeping government measures.

Sowore dismissed the demand as unconstitutional and a disgrace, vowing to continue his activism “with or without a Twitter account.”
