EFCC Blames Yahoo Boys for Stricter Visa Rules on Nigerians

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has attributed the increasingly strict visa restrictions imposed on Nigerians abroad to the rising cases of internet fraud perpetrated by so-called Yahoo Boys.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, represented by Chief Superintendent Coker Oyegunle at a youth sensitization programme in Abuja, said cybercrime is damaging Nigeria’s global reputation and creating difficulties for law-abiding citizens. According to him, fraudulent practices such as internet scams and money laundering have forced many countries to tighten entry requirements for Nigerians.

Olukoyede cautioned young people that fraud offers no real success, warning that many end up losing their freedom and future. He urged them to focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and the creative sector rather than pursuing quick money through crime.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to clamp down on cybercriminals while also sensitizing the public on the dangers of internet fraud.
