Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has announced a significant wage increase for civil servants and medical doctors in the state, as part of a new package aimed at improving worker welfare and boosting the local economy.
Speaking in Owerri, the governor revealed that the new minimum wage for civil servants has been fixed at ₦104,000 per month, while medical doctors in the state’s civil service will now receive ₦582,000 monthly.
Uzodimma explained that the salary adjustments were made possible by improved internally generated revenue and increased federal allocations to the state. He added that the measure was designed not only to enhance the livelihoods of workers but also to stimulate greater productivity and economic activity.
In addition to the wage hike, the governor announced a ₦16 billion fund to clear outstanding pension and gratuity arrears, with plans to integrate retirees into the state’s free healthcare insurance scheme.
