NEW EBOLA OUTBREAK CONFIRMED IN DRC: 15 DEAD, W.H.O MOBILIZES RAPID RESPONSE
The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed a new Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with 15 reported deaths, including four health workers. The outbreak, officially declared on September 4, has been traced to Kasai Province, where a pregnant woman initially presented symptoms in late August before succumbing to the disease.
Lab tests have confirmed the Zaire strain of the virus, one of the deadliest forms. So far, 28 suspected cases have been identified across Bulape and Mweka health zones.
In response, the WHO has deployed emergency teams, mobile labs, medical supplies, and around 2,000 doses of the Ervebo Ebola vaccine, already pre-stocked in the country.
This marks the 16th recorded Ebola outbreak in the DRC. Health officials are urging swift community cooperation to prevent further spread.
WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Mohamed Janabi, stressed, “We’re acting with determination to rapidly halt the spread of the virus and protect communities.”
The situation remains uncertain, with health authorities closely monitoring for additional cases.
