Nsukka’s First Catholic Bishop, Francis Okobo, Passes Away at 89
The Nsukka Catholic community has been thrown into mourning following the death of its first bishop, Most Rev. Francis Okobo.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Rev. Fr. Greg Nnamani, Vicar General of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese, Bishop Okobo passed away at the age of 89 in an Enugu hospital after a brief illness.
Bishop Okobo, remembered for his pioneering role in establishing the diocese, was revered for his devotion, humility, and service to the Church. His death marks the end of an era for the Catholic faithful in Nsukka and beyond.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the diocese in due course.
