August 31, 2025 | Edo State, Nigeria In a tragic turn of events, Ruth Otabor—the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor—has died.
The family confirmed her passing in a statement released today.
According to the family’s solicitors, Eko Solicitors & Advocates, Ruth passed away at approximately 6:30 a.m. on August 31, 2025, while receiving care in hospital. “With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30am,” the statement reads
‘The family still deeply in mourning and has asked for privacy during this tragic period, and funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course”
Ruth’s passing has elicited widespread sadness. Fans, well-wishers, and celebrities have taken to social media to extend their condolences and support to Phyna and her family
