FG, EU, and UNDP Launch Free Tech Job Placement Programme for Nigerian Youths

Nigeria Moves to Create More Tech Jobs for Young People

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a new programme that will help young people who have learned digital and tech skills find real jobs.

The programme, called the 3MTT–NJFP Tech Placement Initiative, was officially announced on October 30, 2025, by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in partnership with the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This new plan will connect trained Nigerian youths with technology companies looking for workers and it will be free for employers.

Why This Programme Matters

Many young Nigerians have learned tech skills through online and local training programmes, but most still struggle to find jobs. The 3MTT–NJFP initiative aims to solve that problem by linking these skilled youths directly to real job opportunities.

According to the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, this project will make it easier for companies to discover talented Nigerians.

“We have trained thousands of young people in areas like software development, product design, and data science. Now, we want to help them find jobs that allow them to use those skills and grow our digital economy,” Dr. Tijani explained during the launch in Abuja.

How the Programme Works

The initiative brings together two existing projects:

3MTT (3 Million Technical Talent Programme): a government project that trains Nigerians in tech and digital skills.

NJFP (Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme): a UNDP-supported platform that connects graduates with work placements.

Under the new plan, 3MTT graduates will be matched with employers registered under NJFP. The jobs will focus on fields such as:

Software development

Data analysis

Cybersecurity

Product design

Artificial intelligence (AI)

Cloud computing

Employers will not pay any placement fees, while selected youths will receive mentorship, practical experience, and exposure to real tech projects.

International Partners Support Nigeria’s Vision

The UNDP and EU say this partnership is part of a bigger goal to help Africa’s young people prepare for the future of work.

UNDP Nigeria’s representative, Elsie Attafuah, said the programme will help close the gap between education and employment.

“We are proud to support Nigeria’s effort to create more digital jobs and give youths a chance to apply their skills,” she said.

EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, also noted that the project shows the EU’s belief in Africa’s potential.

By investing in people, we are investing in the future,” she added.

Benefits for Nigeria’s Economy

Experts say the new initiative could help reduce unemployment while also building a stronger technology industry. As more Nigerian youths get digital jobs, the country can attract new investments and grow local innovation.

The project also supports Nigeria’s goal of becoming Africa’s leading tech-talent hub by 2030. Many startups and big companies are already looking for local developers, designers, and engineers, and this programme may supply that talent.

Applications for the placement programme are expected to open soon on the official 3MTT and NJFP websites. Interested youths are encouraged to follow verified government and media updates for details.

Businesses in Nigeria can also sign up to hire trained talent through the same platforms all at no cost.
