STUDENTS IN PANIC AS ASUU GOES ON AN INDEFINITE STRIKE

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned of a nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to act on its long-standing promises. At a press conference in Ibadan, ASUU accused the government of neglect, citing the unimplemented 2009 agreement, withheld salaries, poor funding of universities, and erosion of autonomy.

The union has declared Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as a nationwide protest and given the Federal Government till August 28 to resolve the issues. If unmet, lecturers may down tools, plunging public universities into another round of disruption and students may once again be caught in the crossfire if the deadlock continues.

Students and stakeholders are anxiously watching, as ASUU insists its patience has “reached breaking point.”
