NITDA and Governors’ Forum Partner to Drive Nigeria’s State-Level Digital Transformation
Nigeria’s NITDA partners with the Governors’ Forum to accelerate digital transformation across all states, bridging the digital divide and boosting e-governance and inclusion.
Nigeria is taking another bold step toward nationwide digital transformation as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) partners with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to accelerate digital adoption across all 36 states.
The strategic collaboration, announced today, aims to strengthen technology-driven governance, expand access to digital tools, and bridge the digital divide between rural and urban communities.
According to NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the partnership represents a shared vision between the federal and state governments to ensure that Nigeria’s digital economy strategy benefits everyone not just a few tech-savvy regions.
“Digital transformation should not stop at Abuja or Lagos,” Abdullahi stated during the partnership signing event. “Every Nigerian state must be empowered to innovate, digitize, and improve public services using technology.”
Bridging the Gap Between States
Over the years, Nigeria’s digital growth has been uneven with major cities like Lagos and Abuja recording high digital penetration, while rural states struggle with poor infrastructure, limited access, and low digital literacy.
Through this NITDA-NGF initiative, state governments will receive technical support, training, and policy guidance to implement e-governance systems, strengthen cybersecurity, and adopt emerging technologies that improve service delivery.
Programs such as “Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL)” and “Digital State Transformation Framework” will be deployed to promote inclusive access to digital tools and skills.
Empowering Public Institutions and Citizens
The partnership will also help integrate technology into public institutions, streamline processes, and make government operations more transparent.
NITDA plans to collaborate closely with state ICT agencies and ministries to implement digital identity systems, e-records, data protection policies, and digital skills training for civil servants and youth.
The NGF Chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, commended the move, emphasizing that the forum is committed to ensuring that every Nigerian state participates fully in the country’s digital economy agenda.
“The digital economy is the new driver of development. With this collaboration, we want our states to become active participants not spectators in the global digital revolution,” AbdulRazaq said.
A Boost for Nigeria’s Digital Economy
The partnership aligns with the Federal Government’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS 2.0), which targets increased productivity, digital job creation, and innovation-led growth by 2030.
By improving digital infrastructure and fostering innovation at the sub-national level, the initiative is expected to create new opportunities for startups, small businesses, and digital entrepreneurs across Nigeria.
Experts believe this effort could also boost Nigeria’s ranking in global digital competitiveness while attracting more investment into local tech ecosystems.
For a country that aims to diversify its economy away from oil, initiatives like this are vital. Digital inclusion particularly at the state level will determine how effectively Nigeria can compete in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
If successfully implemented, the NITDA-NGF partnership could transform state governance, expand access to public services, and empower millions of Nigerians through digital literacy and innovation.
