Tinubu, Fubara Return Ahead of Rivers Democratic Transition

President Bola Tinubu and suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, have both returned to Nigeria ahead of the official transition marking the end of emergency rule in Rivers State.

Tinubu, who had been on a private visit to France, arrived in Abuja earlier today, while Fubara returned from London as preparations intensify for the handover of governance scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2025.

The six-month emergency rule, declared in March following heightened political tensions in the state, is set to lapse this week. Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator appointed during the period, has already outlined transition activities, including public lectures and a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt.

The return of Fubara is expected to pave the way for his reinstatement as governor. However, political analysts remain divided on how smoothly the process will unfold, given questions over executive decisions made
