Wike: Demonstrations Are Allowed, But I Won’t Be Blackmailed

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that demonstrations are a legitimate right in a democracy but warned that he would not succumb to any form of blackmail from protesting workers.

Speaking in Abuja, Wike maintained that citizens are free to stage demonstrations anywhere in the country, including the FCT. However, he stressed that such actions must not be used as tools of intimidation against his administration.

The minister’s remarks come amid rising tensions with FCT workers, who have been voicing grievances over workplace conditions and policy decisions. Wike reaffirmed his commitment to addressing genuine concerns while making it clear that governance cannot be dictated by threats or undue pressure.
