BREAKING NEWS: Zulum Mourns as 63 Killed in Fresh Boko Haram Attack on Borno Community
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of 58 residents and five soldiers in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday night when suspected Boko Haram insurgents stormed the community, unleashing terror on civilians and security operatives. Governor Zulum, who visited the affected community on Saturday, described the attack as “very sad and heartbreaking”.
According to him, Darajamal, which was only resettled a few months ago, had begun to regain normalcy before the latest onslaught. He said, “We are here to commiserate with the people of Darajamal. At this moment, we have confirmed that 63 people lost their lives, including about 60 civilians and five soldiers.”
Governor Zulum stressed that the attack underscores the urgent need for stronger security measures, noting that the military’s numerical strength alone is not enough to cover every vulnerable area. He called for the immediate deployment of newly trained Forest Guards to help secure forests and rural communities.
The Senator representing Borno Central, Kaka Lawan, also condemned the killings, describing them as a “crime against humanity”. He pledged legislative support to back the governor’s efforts in restoring lasting peace to Borno State.
The massacre once again raises fresh concerns about the lingering insecurity in the North-East despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
