AMIR Fund Partners OAU for Oncology Research
The Africa Medical Innovation & Research (AMIR) Fund has entered into a strategic partnership with Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, to advance oncology research and improve cancer treatment outcomes in Nigeria and beyond.
The collaboration, unveiled on Monday, seeks to foster groundbreaking studies in cancer biology, drug discovery, and innovative therapies while strengthening local capacity for medical research.
According to the fund’s management, the partnership will provide grants, research facilities, and international collaborations aimed at positioning OAU as a hub for oncology innovation in West Africa.
“This initiative is about bridging the gap in cancer research in Africa and creating solutions that are not only world-class but also tailored to our realities,” AMIR Fund said in a statement.
OAU’s Vice-Chancellor welcomed the partnership, describing it as a “milestone in the university’s commitment to advancing health sciences and contributing to the global fight against cancer.”
Medical experts have hailed the move as timely, given the rising cancer burden in Nigeria and the urgent need for homegrown solutions.
