Niger Gov Unveils Bold Plan: Abuja Workers May Soon Sleep in Minna
The Governor of Niger State has announced an ambitious plan to construct a modern rail line from Minna to Abuja, a project he described as a game-changer for regional connectivity and economic growth.
According to the Governor, the rail line will begin from the prestigious Three Arms Zone in Abuja and extend all the way to Minna, the state capital. Once completed, the project will make it possible for residents to work in Abuja during the day and return to Minna at night — a move that could drastically reshape daily commuting patterns in the North-Central region.
> “We are going to construct a rail line from Minna, starting from the Three Arms Zone, to Abuja — making it possible to work in Abuja during the day and return to Minna to sleep at night,” the Governor said.
The proposed project is expected to ease the housing pressure in Abuja, cut down travel time between the two cities, and unlock new economic opportunities for Niger State. Observers also believe it could reduce traffic congestion on the Abuja–Kaduna–Minna highways, while boosting investments in real estate and commerce across the region.
While the Governor did not disclose the estimated cost or funding model for the rail project, he assured citizens that the initiative aligns with his administration’s vision to modernize infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents.
Stakeholders have welcomed the proposal but urged transparency, proper planning, and environmental considerations to ensure the project delivers on its promises.
