NBTE Orders Polytechnic Lecturers to Obtain Master’s Degree Within Five Years

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has directed that all lecturers in polytechnics, vocational and agricultural institutions must obtain a master’s degree within five years of employment.

Those who fail to comply will be reassigned to non-teaching roles.

According to the board, the policy is meant to raise teaching standards and ensure Nigeria’s technical institutions remain competitive globally.

While some staff unions have welcomed the move as a step towards academic excellence, others fear it may strain lecturers financially and worsen staff shortages.
