Tamil Nadu Rolls Out AI and Robotics Programme in Schools
The Indian state of Tamil Nadu has unveiled a new education initiative, TN SPARK, to introduce artificial intelligence, robotics, and coding into government schools. The programme, currently being piloted in 85 schools across Coimbatore district, targets students in classes VI to IX.
Students will learn the basics of algorithms, coding, and digital design using tools such as Scratch, Blockly, and HTML. Special bilingual textbooks in Tamil and English have been prepared, and teachers have received training to deliver the lessons effectively. Weekly sessions are held in newly established high-tech labs.
State officials say TN SPARK will equip students with future-ready skills and prepare them for a technology-driven economy. Early feedback shows strong enthusiasm among learners, though experts caution that reliable infrastructure and consistent funding will be critical to the programme’s long-term success.
