Oyo Govt Bans “Sign-Out” Parties, Reaffirms Phone Ban in Schools
The Oyo State Government has placed a total ban on the popular “sign-out” celebrations by graduating students in all public and private secondary schools. The decision follows increasing cases of misconduct, vandalism, and unruly behaviour often linked to the events.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, who made the announcement at a meeting with school principals in Ibadan, also reiterated the ban on mobile phone use among students, stressing that phones distract learners, expose them to harmful content, and promote cyberbullying.
He further directed principals to ensure discipline, punctuality, safe school environments, and the use of only government-approved textbooks, while warning against illegal levies that burden parents. Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a step towards restoring order and focus in schools across the state.
