Nursing Council Ends Policy of Dismissing Students After Exam Failures

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has abolished its controversial rule that dismissed students who failed a section of professional exams three times.

With the reform, such students will now be allowed to retake only the failed sections until successful, provided they maintain 80% attendance in both academic and clinical postings.

The Council said the decision aligns with international best practices and is aimed at making the nursing education system more inclusive.

Nursing schools and students have welcomed the move, describing it as a relief that will reduce the rate of dropouts in the sector.
