Using Newspapers to Wrap Food Is Dangerous — Aproko Doctor Warns
Popular health advocate Aproko Doctor has issued a strong warning against the use of newspapers to wrap food, stressing that the practice exposes people to toxic chemicals.
According to him, newspapers are produced with ink containing harmful substances such as lead and heavy metals, which can seep into food and lead to long-term health problems, including poisoning, organ damage, and even cancer.
Despite being a common practice among street food vendors across Nigeria, he cautioned that “what looks convenient today could harm your health tomorrow.”
Health experts continue to advise that food should be wrapped in food-grade paper, foil, or clean containers, not materials never intended for consumption.
The warning has sparked fresh conversations on hygiene, food safety, and the urgent need for stricter regulation of street food practices.
