WASSCE 2025 Results Record Lowest Performance in a Decade
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2025 WASSCE results, reporting the worst performance in ten years. Only 38.32% of candidates obtained five credits, including English and Mathematics, compared to over 72% in 2024. WAEC attributed the decline to stricter anti-cheating measures and challenges associated with the partial rollout of computer-based testing.
Education experts expressed concern that the sharp drop reflects weaknesses in Nigeria’s secondary education system.
Stakeholders have urged immediate reforms in teaching methods, student preparation, and investment in digital learning resources to avoid further decline in future examinations.
