Federal Government Introduces Trade Subjects for JSS1

The Federal Ministry of Education has rolled out a revised national curriculum requiring all Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) students to take at least one trade subject. Options include solar panel installation, fashion design, computer hardware, GSM repair, and catering.

The initiative aims to equip young learners with practical skills from an early stage while still pursuing academic studies.

Education experts have welcomed the policy, saying it will promote entrepreneurship and reduce youth unemployment, though some have raised concerns about teacher training and facilities.
