Karnataka Pushes Skill-Based Programs in Higher Education
The Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) has announced new reforms designed to make undergraduate studies more skill-oriented, aiming to strengthen the employability of graduates across the state.
Under the new framework, students will pursue three core subjects along with an open elective, giving them both depth and flexibility in learning. Additionally, research exposure will be introduced earlier in academic programs to cultivate innovation and problem-solving skills among undergraduates.
According to state officials, the changes are meant to align academic structures with industry requirements while also supporting India’s broader National Education Policy (NEP) objectives. By encouraging skill-based learning, Karnataka hopes to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world application.
Education analysts believe the move could provide students with better career readiness while enhancing the global competitiveness of Karnataka’s universities.
